The Rotary Club of Kampala East came into being on March 10th March, 1987, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Kampala West. It was however not until March 5th 1988 that it was admitted into Rotary International and Chartered on May 5th 1988.
Rotarian Paul Masembe-Nteyafa (RIP) was the Charter President and there were 35 Charter members. 7 of these Charter members are still in the Club. Rotary Club of Kampala East (RCKE) holds it’s lively and vibrant weekly Rotary Club meetings every Thursday at Hotel Africana, Kampala at 1900 hours. Currently, the Club has a total membership of 57 comprising 35 males (61.4%) and 22 females (38.6%).
RCKE mothered the following Rotary Clubs; Rotary Club of Portbell, Rotary Club of Kasangati, Rotary Club of Nsangi and Rotary Club of Kampala Palms. RCKE sponsors 3 (Three) Rotaract Clubs; Rotaract Club of Nakawa MUBS, Rotaract Club of Kampala East, Rotaract Club of Ndejje City as well Interact Clubs; Seroma Interact Club, Hana Mixed School, Nsangi Secondary School, Olympio High School and Muyenga High School. The Club yielded two members who established the Rotary Club of Nkumba.
The Club also has a Rotary Community Corps (RCC) in Kalandazi, chartered in 2004, after establishing a forest project.
The Club President for 2023/24 is Rotarian Denis Mubangizi. The President Elect is Rotarian Jacqueline Mali for the Rotary Year 2024/2025 and the President Nominee is Rotarian Rodney Twagarukaho Bagamba for the Rotary Year 2025/2026.
The Club has a Five-year Strategic Plan 2020/2025, which guides the execution of activities and has sets goals per Rotary Year. The activities are a reflection of the Rotary International (RI) goals as contained in the RI President’s citation.
